I was surprised myself - we've had some discussions with guys working on polysemy, but those by themselves don't feel to be enough to get such number
I used to manage a Zulip group, where some members pointed out similar stats (they were complaining about why people are not 'talking in public' and it lead to a flamewar) ... and now, seeing similar stats here, I'm beginning to wonder if there is a bug in Zulip stats aggregation. Surely, this place must have more public messages than DMs?
... in last month: https://funprog.zulipchat.com/stats
and 61% were private DMs in last year.
Is this .... to be expected?
In other words, there are more private DM messages than messages in public streams? Crazy.

Public
Private
is there a way to get those statistics for my own messages? I can't find it in the API
Oh - seems like in https://funprog.zulipchat.com/stats, you can click on

My messages are like the exact opposite, the pie chart colours flip

wow that is incredibly surprising. If not a bug maybe the work of some sort of bot?
Some botnets figured out how to use Zulip for CNC?..

I guess the people who would vote are the people who use public messages the most
