TheMatten

Is there something specific to mention (compared to "Foam")?

Sridhar Ratnakumar

@TheMatten The Philosophy page is the main thing, especially not being dependent on editor.

Sridhar Ratnakumar

Also the upcoming cerveau app

They (shadow) banned my HN account long ago :P so thanks for your comment !

Sridhar Ratnakumar

Somebody (maddyboo) already mentioned neuron in comments, nice

Sridhar Ratnakumar

@felko ^^ relevant to your orgmode PR

Sridhar Ratnakumar

"Like Org-roam but without the tie-in to Emacs"?

felko

yeah, as much as I like emacs, being editor independent is really cool
other zettelkasten thread, with mention of neuron: https://www.reddit.com/r/emacs/comments/hfamm7/those_who_have_tried_out_multiple_zettelkasten/
not about neuron being editor independent (its r/emacs after all), but even emacs users seem to appreciate the fact that they can browse their notes outside emacs, on the webapp

Sridhar Ratnakumar

There’s something about using emacs to interface with a system written in haskell and installed with nix that just says “peak emacs” to me.

Haha

Sridhar Ratnakumar

not a week goes by before a zettelkasten related story pops up :stuck_out_tongue:

Sridhar Ratnakumar

After having used Bear, Notable, and Atom + plugins, I’m realizing I don’t really want an app to manage my notes. I just want the notes, plus a tool to traverse them that’s got a bit more beef to it than Finder.app.
I’d like to use a more powerful app like the one promoted here, but I feel desperately uncomfortable tying my notes [in] to a piece of proprietary software. I feel like that was a mistake I made already, and don’t want to repeat.

Someone should mention neuron in that thread

Sridhar Ratnakumar

Why is there an abundance of note taking apps? Why is it that this particular category of software/apps sees a new one every now and then?

:-P

Sridhar Ratnakumar

Maybe neuron could use some marketing under this comment @TheMatten :-D https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24268867
